Igor Chernyshov scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the San Jose Sharks edged the visiting Los Angeles Kings 5-4 on Saturday night.
Chernyshov, who also had an assist in regulation, one-timed a Macklin Celebrini feed under Anton Forsberg’s arm for the game-winner with 1:42 remaining in the extra frame.
Tyler Toffoli, Kiefer Sherwood and Nolan Allan also scored while Yaroslav Askarov made 31 saves as the Sharks picked up their second overtime win in as many games to open the season.
Celebrini finished with a pair of assists in the win.
Adrian Kempe, Quinton Byfield and Artemi Panarin each scored and added an assist, and Erik Haula also scored a goal for the Kings, who have dropped a pair of games to open the season.
Brandt Clarke chipped in two assists and Forsberg stopped 20 shots.
Chernyshov gave San Jose a 4-2 lead at 4:08 of the third, beating Forsberg with a backhand on a partial break.
The Kings pulled to 4-3 at 10:21 as Haula redirected an Erik Gustafsson point shot past Askarov.
Panarin tied it 4-4 at 14:59 of the third, one-timing a Byfield pass past Askarov.
San Jose scored three goals in the middle frame to erase a 1-0 deficit and open a 3-1 lead.
Toffoli tied it 1-1 at 1:48 of the middle frame on a power play, tapping in a cross-crease feed from Ivar Stenberg, who recorded his first career point with the helper.
Sherwood gave the Sharks their first lead of the night at 9:52 when he intercepted a cross-ice pass by the Kings and snapped a shot from the slot past Forsberg.
San Jose doubled its lead at 12:32 of the second when Allan snapped a shot under Forsberg’s glove.
The Kings cut the lead to one with 1.3 seconds remaining in the second as Byfield beat Askarov short-side over the shoulder on a power play.
Los Angeles opened the scoring at 15:50 on a power play as Kempe one-timed a cross-ice feed from Panarin blocker side past Askarov for his first of the season.
