The Toronto Blue Jays placed George Springer on the 10-day injured list Sunday, one day after he fractured the big toe on his left foot in a game against the Minnesota Twins.
The Blue Jays recalled fellow outfielder Eloy Jimenez from the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons as a corresponding roster move.
Springer fouled an 0-1 pitch off his left foot while facing Minnesota’s Joe Ryan. Springer continued the at-bat and grounded out to third base.
Myles Straw hit for Springer in the sixth inning.
Springer, 36, is batting .185 with two homers and six RBIs through 14 games this season. He has played in at least 133 games for the Blue Jays every year since the 2022 campaign.
Springer spent the first seven years of his career with the Houston Astros (2014-20) and earned World Series Most Valuable Player honors in 2017.
For his career, Springer is batting .266 with 295 homers and 802 RBIs.
Jimenez, 29, is hitting .257 with one homer and five RBIs in 11 games with Buffalo.
