Tim Stutzle scored his second goal of the game 3:19 into overtime, lifting the Ottawa Senators past the host Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 on Saturday.
Ottawa won despite registering only 13 shots, the final one coming off a nifty setup by Drake Batherson, who put a perfect pass on the doorstep for Stutzle as he slammed on the brakes and redirected the puck past Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson.
Stutzle has scored six goals in his last six games, including a pair of multi-goal efforts. Michael Amadio also scored a goal for the Senators, while Linus Ullmark made 20 saves to earn the victory.
Ersson stopped 10 shots for Philadelphia, which had won its previous two games and five of its previous seven. Jamie Drysdale and Matvei Michkov scored for the Flyers, while Christian Dvorak notched a pair of assists.
Islanders 5, Rangers 0
Bo Horvat scored on an odd-man rush midway through the first period and added a power-play goal late in the second and the Islanders recorded a shutout victory over the Rangers, who remained winless at home ice.
The Islanders ended a five-game losing streak to the Rangers and beat them for only the second time in the past 10 meetings. Jonathan Drouin added a goal on an odd-man rush with 33 seconds left in the opening period and set up Horvat’s second goal along with Jean-Gabriel Pageau’s empty-net tally with 2:01 left in the third. Anders Lee finished it off by scoring on an odd-man rush in the final minute.
The Rangers dropped to 0-6-1 at home this season for their longest home winless skid to start a season in their 100-year history. New York was blanked for the fifth time on home ice as it has managed just six goals at Madison Square Garden.
Devils 2, Penguins 1 (SO)
Paul Cotter scored the deciding goal in the shootout to lift host New Jersey to a win against Pittsburgh.
Arseny Gritsuk scored and Jake Allen made 33 saves for the Devils, who remain unbeaten at home (7-0-0) and have won three of their last four games.
Ryan Graves scored and Arturs Silovs made 23 saves for the Penguins, who have lost three of their last four games (1-2-1).
Stars 5, Predators 4
Dallas scored twice in less than a minute in the middle of the third period to take the lead and held on for a come-from-behind win over host Nashville.
Mavrik Bourque had a goal and an assist, and Roope Hintz, Justin Hryckowian, Adam Erne and Sam Steel also scored for the Stars, who have points in eight of their last nine games (5-1-3). Ryan O’Reilly and defenseman Nick Blankenburg each contributed two assists, and Justus Annunen made 17 saves.
Defenseman Nicolas Hague scored a goal and added an assist, while Luke Evangelista, Filip Forsberg and Steven Stamkos each scored for the Predators, who have lost seven of their last eight games (1-5-2).
Bruins 5, Maple Leafs 3
Morgan Geekie had a goal and assist and visiting Boston defeated Toronto for its sixth straight win.
Viktor Arvidsson, Michael Eyssimont, David Pastrnak and Fraser Minten also scored for Boston, Mason Lohrei added two assists and Jeremy Swayman made 30 stops.
Nicholas Robertson, Matias Maccelli and John Tavares scored for the Maple Leafs, whose three-game winning streak ended. Morgan Rielly had two assists. Anthony Stolarz allowed four goals on 19 shots before Dennis Hildeby replaced him in the second period and stopped 19 of 20 shots.
Kraken 4, Blues 3 (OT)
Shane Wright scored the winning goal as visiting Seattle edged St. Louis in overtime.
The Kraken tied the game in the final two seconds of regulation time on Chandler Stephenson’s goal to force overtime. Eeli Tolvanen had a goal and two assists for the Kraken, who are 4-1-2 in their last seven games. Ryker Evans had a goal and an assist for Seattle, and goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 16 saves.
Jordan Kyrou, Dylan Holloway and Dalibor Dvorsky scored for the Blues and goaltender Joel Hofer made 26 saves.
Canadiens 6, Mammoth 2
Cole Caufield scored twice, as Montreal notched five unanswered goals to beat visiting Utah.
Among the NHL leaders with 12 goals, Caufield scored in the second and third periods for the Canadiens, who erased a pair of one-goal deficits to extend their point streak to six games (4-0-2). Oliver Kapanen and Alex Newhook each had a goal with an assist, and Sam Montembeault made 25 saves for Montreal, which got more insurance from Nick Suzuki and Kirby Dach.
Kailer Yamamoto and Lawson Crouse each had a goal for Utah, which has lost four of five after winning seven straight.
Hurricanes 6, Sabres 3
Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Charles-Alexis Legault each had a goal and an assist and Carolina defeated Buffalo in Raleigh, N.C.
Eric Robinson and Seth Jarvis also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won three games in a row. Robinson was in his first game since a six-game absence with an injury. Rookie Legault posted his first two career points in the third period in his seventh NHL game. Pyotr Kochetkov made 19 saves.
Owen Power, Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson scored for the Sabres, but Buffalo has lost two straight in regulation following a seven-game points streak. Alex Lyon made 29 saves.
Lightning 3, Capitals 2
Brandon Hagel scored the tie-breaking goal and had an assist as host Tampa Bay won for the seventh time in eight games by beating Washington.
Jake Guentzel also had a goal and an assist, and Emil Lilleberg scored for the Lightning as well. Charle-Edouard D’Astous posted two helpers. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 28 saves.
Brandon Duhaime and John Carlson hit the back of the net for the Capitals, and Ethen Frank and Nic Dowd recorded assists. Goalie Logan Thompson made 16 saves. Washington slipped to a 1-5-1 mark in its last seven games.
Avalanche 9, Oilers 1
Nathan MacKinnon scored twice and added two assists as Colorado thumped host Edmonton.
Parker Kelly scored twice and added an assist, Cale Makar and Jack Drury each added a pair of goals, and Gavin Brindley had a goal and a helper for the Avalanche, who have points in six straight (4-0-2) and improved to 5-1-3 on the road. Devon Toews had three assists, and Zakhar Bardakov added a pair of helpers. Goaltender Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves.
Connor McDavid responded for the Oilers, who have dropped three straight and lost on home ice for the first time (4-1-2). Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 13 shots. Calvin Pickard stopped 16 of 21 shots in relief.
Sharks 3, Panthers 1
Yaroslav Askarov made 38 saves for host San Jose in a win against Florida.
Macklin Celebrini, Adam Gaudette and Alexander Wennberg scored for the Sharks, who have won three in a row for the first time this season. Celebrini, the 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick, collected his 10th goal of the season and NHL-leading 24th point.
Brad Marchand scored for the fourth straight game and Daniil Tarasov made 20 saves for the Panthers, who have dropped two of three.
Ducks 4, Golden Knights 3 (OT)
Jacob Trouba scored with 31.5 seconds left in overtime to lead Anaheim to its sixth straight victory over Vegas in Las Vegas.
Leo Carlsson scored two goals and had an assist to extend his point streak to nine games, Olen Zellweger had two assists and Frank Vatrano also scored for Anaheim, while Petr Mrazek made 36 saves for the Pacific Division-leading Ducks.
Brett Howden, Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaeden Korczak scored goals for Vegas, which suffered its second straight loss and fifth in the last seven games. Akira Schmid finished with 25 saves.
Canucks 4, Blue Jackets 3
Brock Boeser scored the winner late in the third period, and Drew O’Connor had a goal and an assist as Vancouver rallied to beat visiting Columbus.
Boeser shattered a 3-3 deadlock by knocking a pass out of the air then shooting the puck off the left arm of goalie Elvis Merzlikins at 14:15 as the teams traded goals in the roller-coaster third period. Jake DeBrusk and Conor Garland also scored for the Canucks, who have alternated between a win and a loss for seven straight games. Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves for Vancouver.
Kirill Marchenko had two goals and an assist, and Dmitri Voronkov finished with a goal and two assists for the Blue Jackets, who lost their third consecutive game. Merzlikins stopped 21 of 25 shots.
