Alabama blows double digit second half lead, drops 65-56 to Texas A&M

The hits just keep coming for Alabama basketball as the Tide drop their third game in a row, giving them their first three-game losing streak of the season, as they travel to College Station and fall for the second time this season to Texas A&M.

Alabama led by as much as 12 in the second half over Texas A&M, leading 44-32 with 12:28 left in the game after a Herbert Jones dunk. The Tide would score one point in the next seven minutes to lose the lead for good as the Aggies went on to win 65-56. Alabama was outscored 41-26 in the second half after being up 6 at halftime.

Tevin Mack was the only Alabama player in double digit scoring with 14 points on 6-10 shooting. John Petty got the start and went 3-8 for 7 points while leader Kira Lewis Jr. went 2-11 including only 1-7 from beyond the arc for a total of 5 points. John Petty led Alabama in rebounds with 6.

For Texas A&M Savion Flagg and Wendell Mitchel each scored 18 points with Flagg also getting 9 rebounds.

Texas A&M improves to 11-14, 4-9 in SEC play where they remain in 11th place. Alabama falls to 15-11, 6-7 in conference play and drop to 9th place.

After the game, Avery Johnson said he told his players, “Life is not always perfect. It’s not a Disney movie that ends in a happy ending every game. You’ve got to just stick with it and persevere.”

Reaction to the game was not pretty:

Up next, Alabama hosts Vanderbilt who was defeated by #5 Tennessee last night. The Tide beat Vandy 77-67 in Nashville on February 9. The Commodores have not won an SEC game yet. Alabama will look to stop the bleeding in that game after losing three straight.

Alabama was one of the last four teams in the NCAA Tournament according to Joe Lunardi as they entered the game.
