2018 7A Bracketology After Week 6

Week 6 is in the books and with that, we have a better idea of how the regions will finish out in each classification. Some of the top teams have locked up a playoff spot at the very least and many are already in good position, barring crazy upsets, for a region title.

We take a look at how we feel the brackets could play out with only a few weeks left in region play. Below is the bracket as we see it here at JoxPreps. This is nothing more than us looking at the numbers so far and projecting where teams could finish. These current placings are a mix of current standings, projections and our opinion – none of this is set in stone yet. As we near the end of the season, teams will begin to lock up playoff spots, and we will make sure to note when that happens.

With each team listed in the bracket, we have given a confidence grade. This shows how confident we are that a team will finish in a certain spot. A “HIGH” grade means that we feel they will almost assuredly finish in that spot. A “MEDIUM” grade means that we feel that the team will most likely finish somewhere around where we have them listed, maybe a spot or two off depending on future results. A “LOW” grade means that things are still way up in the air and this is only an opinion from us, but there is a lot that still has to play out.

Here is the JoxPreps bracketology for Class 7A as of right now:

HIGH = Most likely will finish where they are
MEDIUM = Most likely will finish within a spot or two of where our projections have them
LOW = May be in good position now, but things could drastically change with just one or two results

Region 1

1. McGill-ToolenMEDIUM

McGill-Toolen is sitting in a good position for another region title, but they will still have to get past Theodore next week.

2. TheodoreMEDIUM

Theodore is in striking distance and a win this week will put them in a great position to lock up the region title. They have already locked up a playoff spot at 5-0 on the season in region play.

3. FairhopeMEDIUM

Fairhop is in a good position to go ahead and lock up a playoff spot this week with a win at Foley. They still have to beat McGill-Toolen to earn a home game in the first round because Theodore has already defeated them, but they should be close to a lock for the playoffs.

4. DavidsonLOW

Davidson has a two game lead on all the teams below them, which has them in a good position. Their only two region losses are to McGill-Toolen and Fairhope. They can afford to lose to Theodore, but only need to beat Murphy and Foley to lock up a playoff spot. If they win all three, that could potentially put them in a higher position.

Others that could grab a spot: Murphy, Foley, Baker

Region 2

1. Central-Phenix CityHIGH

Central and Auburn have a date at the end of the season for the region title. I don’t forsee either losing until then, but Central has already defeated some of it’s toughest competition and done so with ease. With three shutouts and a 45-7 scoring average, we have then projected as the 1-seed.

Auburn has had a really good season, but will play potentially the other three playoff teams in the following weeks. It will still most likely come down to their game against Central, but even in second they will host in the first round.

3. PrattvilleMEDIUM

Prattville jumped a big hurdle this past Thursday night with a win over Lee-Montgomery. That should put them in a position where only one more win will be enough to make the playoffs, but to be safe, they need to win at least this week against Jeff Davis and hope that Smiths Station falls to Auburn this week.

4. Lee-MontgomeryMEDIUM

Lee and Smiths Station are tied for fourth right now, but Lee won the regular season match-up back in September so they are the favorite right now. Lee still has Enterprise which should be a win and solidify themselves in the playoffs.

Others that could grab a spot: Smiths Station

Region 3

1. Hewitt-TrussvilleMEDIUM

With Hewitt’s win over Hoover, they are the favorites in the region right now. They have a tough test at Mountain Brook this week and then at Thompson on October 26.

2. Mountain BrookLOW

Mountain Brook is in this spot because they are undefeated and one of only two that are unbeaten in the region along with Hewitt-Trussville. However, they still have to play Hewitt, Hoover and Thompson to round out the season. That could be tough. They have earned the right to be here for now, but our confidence is low that they will win out through those games.

3. HooverMEDIUM

Hoover is trying to win out to finish at least second and get a home game. They have to get past a rivalry game at Vestavia and then Mountain Brook to finish the season.

4. ThompsonMEDIUM

Thompson’s loss to Hoover has them in a tough spot to where they would have to beat Hewitt in order to at least force a tiebreaker. They also have to travel to Mountain Brook which could be tough. They also have to face a Vestavia team that isn’t out of it yet coming up this weekend.

Others that could grab a spot: Vestavia Hills

Region 4

1. AustinMEDIUM

Austin and James Clemens are headed for a region title showdown on the final week of region play. They are both unbeaten at this point and are very close to one another.

2. James ClemensMEDIUM

James Clemens could easily be the 1-seed but we’ll have to wait until they face off with Austin.

3. FlorenceLOW

Bob Jones has already lost to Florence so a loss to either Sparkman or Huntsville will eliminate them from playoff contention. There is a 3-way tie right now between Huntsville, Sparkman and Florence. Because Florence has the best win % of the three tied teams, we have them third.

4. HuntsvilleLOW

Huntsville beat Sparkman but lost to Florence this past weekend. They all still have to play either Austin or James Clemens and Sparkman and Florence still have to play each other. That will help determine who gets the 3 and who gets the 4.

Others that could grab a spot: Bob Jones, Sparkman
